Fall Trends

Friday, December 14th, 2007

These days we get a lot of questions about dressing for pregnancy.  Here are our top thoughts for the season.

Tunics - Tunics are a fabulous way to feel comfortable and look stylish.  Tunic sweaters or tops layered over leggings or tights will get you through the season in style.  Pair with boots or flats for two totally different looks.

tunic

Skinny Jeans - We have many customers who question this trend for maternity.  However, skinny jeans are a stylish alternative with boots and a longer sweater or tunic, and they are warmer than leggings, which makes them practical.

paige

Cozy Sweaters - With cold weather just reaching many of us, sweaters and knit dresses have been hot.  They provide a way to look ”dressed” while feeling comfortable.

dress

Corduroy - For all our urban customers, stylish cords are the perfect way to stay warm.  With many alternatives from designer brands to casual price points, corduroys are an easy staple for your season wardrobe.

Hip Dresses - This season, dresses are an ideal look for day or night.  Pair with boots or dress up with heels and tights.  Either way, you are sure to look great.

Priti Organic Spa

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

With our new Going Green campaign, we want to share with you some our favorite places to enjoy life while caring for the environment.  For our New York customers, we love Priti Organic Spa.  Featured in magazines and frequented by many NY designers, Priti uses 100% organic products-nail polish, skin care, and even the slippers are biodegradable.  Nail polish is formaldehyde, toulene, and dbp free and the varnish remover is made from soy.  A favorite of many of our customers, Priti is definitely worth a visit-during and after pregnancy.

Stroller Style

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Hip mamas (and cool babes) want hip strollers.  Judging by the pix in Us Magazine, Maclaren is the choice of celeb moms.  And Belly Dance is excited to bring Maclaren to our baby collection at Belly Dance Baby.  We never like to miss a trend, especially a practical one.

Work Those White Jeans

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

You may think that you need to shy away from white jeans while expecting.  However, white jeans are a clean and stylish alternative during the warm weather months.  We love white jeans and white pants paired with solids, stripes, and brights.  People Magazine showcased white jeans recently, and you can flaunt this look too.

Tunic Top 101

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Tunics are a hit this season, and customers often ask about outfit ideas.  Tunics are a sure bet over long jeans, cropped jeans, white pants, and leggings.  However, we like this photo that shows a fashionable way to pair a tunic top with a jean skirt.

Replicate this look with these two pieces from Belly Dance.  Our Belly Dance Squareneck Tunic looks perfect with the Paige Premium Denim Skirt.

Notes From The Underbelly

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Any TV watchers out there?  Did you check out the new ABC show, Notes From The Underbelly?  We did, and we love that there is now a show dedicated to pregnancy and the road to getting there.  It is fun to see so much attention on pregnancy these days.  And, by the way, in one of the scenes, the show’s star, Lauren, was wearing a dress that looks exactly like our NOM Marilyn Dress.  We can’t wait to stay tuned as Lauren’s maternity wardrobe progresses.

Shoes, shoes, shoes

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

The good news is that spring shoe trends this year are favorable to those swollen feet.  Here are some of our favorites.

Ballet slippers-Ballet slippers are an easy way to get that casual, yet polished look.  They look great with skirts, jeans, and capris.  We love them all, but here are some picks.

Wedges-Wedges are not flat.  However, many wedges are comfortable and not too high.  Save them for days when you don’t need to do much walking.  Wedges look great with girly styles, skirts, and dresses.

Sandals-There are many stylish sandals available this season.  We like dressier thongs, like this version from Tory Burch.

Flip Flops-We can’t ignore flip flops.  Let’s face it, our prego feet are happiest in these all summer long.  We are huge fans of Havaianas.

Our Favorite Spring Trends

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Well, it’s that time of year again.  The weather is changing (we hope), and our racks are full of fabulous Spring clothes.  The main thing we are seeing this season is the ability to add some fun to your maternity wardrobe, and we love it.

So, what are the best trends this season?  Here is the scoop the way we see it:

Color: This Spring, color is key. Kelly green, orange, aqua…  All the brights that conjure up thoughts of warm weather.  So dress that belly with a pop of color this season.

greenorange

Whimsy:  Our team loves this trend.  Bunnies, ponies, and fun prints adorn the styles on our shelves this season.  Check out the Juliet Dream Bunny Tank and Chiarakruza Sophia Tunic with ponies.

Navy and White: You will be seeing lots of navy and white pop up on our site through the next months.  Stripes and solids, we are big fans this crisp and clean look.

navy

Denim, denim, and denim: No surprise here, designer denim continues to be hot.  Fashion styles like cropped jeans and white jeans work well for the warm weather.

Sexy sundresses:  Many sexy dress styles this season make an easy choice for any day out or even your shower.  So many to choose from, it is hard to choose a favorite.

Miss Oops Popper Stoppers

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

It’s a common question-what do you do when your belly button pops?  For years, our customers have been asking if we have a product that hides the belly button in a fitted top or dress.  Well, finally, the perfect solution is here.  Miss Oops, known for finding solutions to common problems, has introduced Popper Stoppers.  Available in a package of five, these Popper Stoppers are latex-free and have a non-adhesive piece in the middle to prevent belly button irritation.  Featured in In Style, on The Today Show, and in many other places, Miss Oops has solved this dressing dilemma.

Travel Relief

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

You may still be expecting, but post-pregnancy you may feel the urge to resume your traveling days.  We all know that traveling is tough these days, and doing it with a tot is even tougher. Well, we have a favorite product, and it is one that we personally use and adore.  It may seem utilitarian, but the Gogo Kidz Travelmate is a parenting essential.  The Travelmate is a wheeled carseat carrier, similar to the wheels you use to pull a suitcase.  Believe us, using the Gogo Kidz Travelmate makes it a breeze to make your way through the airport.

White Hot

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

This season, white is a stylish alternative.  Do not shy away from white when you are pregnant-crisp white silhouettes look clean and translate well while expecting.  This is one trend you can take from Hollywood to your closet, as seen on Angelina Jolie, Keri Russell, Ellen Pompeo, and Jessica Alba.  Try the popular Chiarakruza Raleigh Pant or Olian Gauze Tie Top.

Trenchcoat Trend

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

This Spring, get in on the trenchcoat trend.  As seen on Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes below from Us Magazine, trenchcoats are a stylish and easy trend for spring.  The best part is that trenchcoats look just as good with a giant belly.  See the Duet Maternity Trenchcoat for one hip alternative.

Sweater Style

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Engage in the sweater trend this season with a sleeveless wrap sweater.  Angelina Jolie looks fabulous in this version–check out the Inca Sleeveless Wrap for a similar look.  Wear over a ribbed tank or layer over a long sleeve tee.

Maternity Jeans

Friday, January 12th, 2007

As the design of maternity jeans gets better, customers often comment on how much they like jeans without a band.  Patrick Dempsey and his wife, Jillian, are expecting twin boys, and she is an ideal example of the underbelly, no band fit.  Try Habitual with an inside adjustable waistband for a similar fit.

Paige Premium Denim Maternity Jeans

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

Paige Premium Denim, designed by the former fit model for Seven jeans, is the ultimate jean for real women.  Paige focuses on the right fit even with their non-maternity jeans, and we were so happy that they chose to enter the maternity market.  We are always doubtful about yet another designer maternity jean, but we have seen this on hundreds of pregnant customers, and Paige Premium Denim maternity jeans are fabulous!!  Trust us on this one…

Here is a photo of Eva Longoria in the non-maternity version of Paige.

Stay tuned for more new styles shipping in January in addition to the two great styles in now.
