We are loving these new 60′s inspired shift dresses from Maternal America. Slip one on with tights and boots while the weather is still chilly, then ditch the tights and add a cute flat for Spring and Summer!
In cold months (so, all the time in Chicago this year) I am a sweater dress, tights and boots girl through and through. It’s an easy, comfortable look that has always been my fallback on those mornings when I’m particularly indecisive or sluggish. I was pretty bummed when my regular tights started to get uncomfortable – I didn’t know if a thick and durable pair of maternity tights existed. Enter Preggers. I’ll admit the word ‘compression’ scared me a bit, but once I put these on I was sold. They are so well-made and are just a perfect fit (I did size up to a medium). They have toe and heel reinforcements (never again put your tights on backwards!) and come all the way up to your bra line, but do not restrict your growing belly. I also never fiddle with them during the day, they stay right where they’re supposed to all day long. I haven’t had any issues with blood flow or swelling yet – perhaps these tights have something to do with it! I bought the sock version for a flight next week, but have already been wearing them as boot socks.
I think great fitting accessories/hosiery/lingerie is one of the things we pregnant women tend to skimp on, thinking ‘why spend the money for only 9 months of wear?’ Trust me, you will not be disappointed in Preggers and will be digging them out of the hamper to wear day after day (who has time for laundry anyway??)
At Belly Dance we believe that style and comfort must go hand in hand. That is why we adore Olivia Wilde’s comfy-chic approach to her maternity wardrobe. If it’s her style you love, try items like this NOM Tate Stripe Top with a pair of Paige Penelope Jimmy Jimmy boyfriend cropped jeans. They are both great basics that you will be wearing all the time! We love this outfit paired with fun colored sneakers, leather jacket and a neutral colored bag for a day of running errands or lunch with friends.
With the third trimester right around the corner, I guess it’s time to start getting baby’s room ready! I fell in love with this crib from Restoration Hardware, and since we didn’t find out the gender I’m keeping everything simple and neutral. The hardest part for me was finding a good glider/rocker chair – I really liked three pretty different options and kept changing my mind. I finally narrowed it down to the chair from Target (pictured above on the right) by realizing two important things about the other choices – number one, velvet and vomit do not mix; number two, $1,500 is a completely inappropriate amount of money to spend on something that will most definitely be stained by poo.
How did you find your perfect nursery glider? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
It’s hard to find a bag more iconic than the Chanel Classic Flap Bag. We’re so excited to carry some equally classy diaper bags to keep our customers looking stylish with baby in tow. Stop into one of stores or visit our website to check out the new assortment of bags from Rebecca Minkoff and Storksak!
One of the most comfortable pieces I’ve purchased so far in this pregnancy is from the very company known for soft fabrics and ultimate comfort – Splendid. It’s one of the non-maternity brands we carry at Belly Dance and we love that we can continue to find great items that work well for both our pregnant and post-pregnancy customers. This double-layer thermal hoodie is cozy and warm with a long-sleeve tee underneath, but it will also serve me well in the warmer months (when my little one arrives) over a nursing tank. We carry it in black and grey in both of our stores, and it will be up on our website soon!
With Valentine’s Day just one day away we can’t help buy covet all things pink and lilac. Try Princess Kate’s favorite Seraphine dress for a date night look or a casual “Galentines Day” brunch. Slip on our Michael Stars Elbow Sleeve Henley for knocking about town. It’s so comfy you’d wish you bought more than one and we have plenty colors to choose from! Last, try everyones favorite thong in these fun colors.
Don’t forget you still have time to receive a FREE Hanky Panky with your purchase of $150.00 or more with code: HEART through 2/16.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Free People Engineered Pullover in Charcoal (sold in our stores), Ingrid & Isabel Belly Leggings, J.Crew Factory boots
These weeks sure are flying by. It’s hard to believe I’m nearing the third trimester, and that means almost to baby! There’s one clothing item that I’m wearing more and more as I continue to grow – the Ingrid & Isabel Belly Leggings. They are a great over-the-belly staple (yes, they come all the way up to your bra line!) that are sooo comfortable because they never fall down and don’t have a tag that could irritate itchy skin. Having the extra coverage over my belly has also been a lifesaver in this perpetually-below-freezing winter we’ve been having in Chicago. If you’re looking for a great pair of leggings, I highly recommend giving these a try!
One trend we’re happy to see stick around season after season is horizontal stripes. The preppy, nautical take on stripes is an enduring classic – Olian and Ripe have hit that nail on the head with the Gina dress (3) and the Veronica top (4). New spins on the trend are equally as adorable. Try slub stripes in bright colors from Ripe, drapey black and white stripes or colorblocked stripes, both from Olian. As for that myth that horizontal stripes make you look bigger – throw it out to sea.

Pregnancy and cravings go hand in hand – I’ve been asked countless times over the past few months if I’m craving anything weird or making my husband run out for ice cream and pickles in the middle of the night. Lucky for my husband, I haven’t had any truly bizarre ‘I gotta have it” moments (yet). I am, however, all about juice and fruit these days. I pretty much have to have orange juice and a banana first thing every single morning. I’m also practicing eating on the go with these squeezable apple sauces – they are so handy and delicious!
How about you? Share any cravings you’re having in our comments section! You can also read up on what a few experts have to say about cravings here.
This polar vortex weather we’ve been having across most of the country begs the question, what the heck do we wear to stay warm?? The only answer is layers, layers, layers. We like to start with a soft and comfy basic like Michael Stars (we just received new colors and styles!) Next, throw on a warm sweater or cardigan - this grey version by Seraphine is breathable enough to be worn over a tank in the Spring and Fall, too. You have to keep that neck warm, so add in your favorite scarf (a Gypsy05 version that we carry in stores is shown here). Finally, top it off with a fun vest – this Fillyboo Stay Gold Sweater is a great and unique option. Can you feel the heat??
Olian’s Lucy Tie Dress has stolen our wintery hearts! It’s cute and flattering and works well dressed up or down. Pair it with your favorite denim jacket, a pair of trendy flat sandals, and a chic crossbody bag during the day. And for date night, we suggest a simple swap of your accessories. We love it with a great pair of statement chandelier earrings, metallic clutch, and classic black pumps.
